Objectives of CLlP – Oporto International School (Colegio Luso Internacional do Porto)

The CLlP  – Oporto International School (Colegio Luso Internacional do Porto) was founded by the
Fundação Luso Internacional para a Educação e Cultura da Zona Norte  that, according to its statutes, has the purpose to contribute to the development of education and to promote culture  and social exchange between Portuguese and foreign residents in Portugal .

- The increasing cultural globalization that we are witnessing today;
- The internationalization of northern Portugal, in particular following the integration of Portugal to the European Union;
- A growing need in the geographical mobility for those pursuing a career and of course for their families, made appear new educational needs or for children who have lived in this region, both for now arrive here coming from other countries.

  CLlP - Colégio Luso-International do Porto, was created by 
 Fundação Luso Internacionalunder Artur Victoria presidency, has filled this educational gap, presenting itself as an international school that has English as vehicular language, a British educational system based model   covering all age groups from primary level to enter higher education.

• The  CLlP - Colégio Luso-International do Porto curriculum was  designed to allow equivalence at all levels with the Portuguese educational system and with other international schools, providing access to universities, both Portuguese and foreign;

• the CLlP - Colégio Luso-International do Porto was designed to achieve the following objectives:

-To offer to all students an international-oriented study program, accordingly the modern and academic demanding, and focused on the individual;

-To provide the Portuguese students the opportunity to acquire an international education that will prepare to attend national and foreign universities;

-To provide the foreign students the opportunity to continue their education in Portugal, with a sequential way and smoothly, and,

- To provide the students, with Portuguese parents, who have attended schools in other countries, a proper reintegration process in the Portuguese education system.

Pedagogical principles

The CLlP – Oporto International School (Colegio Luso Internacional do Porto) has an educational program based on seven fundamental pedagogical principles:

Academic excellence: the attainment of the highest academic standards through a comprehensive and integrated curriculum, which rewards both individual performance and the Group achievements;

-Learn to learn: the level of knowledge is developed nowadays such a pace that it is completely impractical any encyclopedic vision of education. To reveal the "how to learn", the aim is to prepare students for a lifetime of continuous learning and continuous development of their skills;

- Cooperative education: The CLlP – Oporto International School (Colegio Luso Internacional do Porto) has a program  based on the premise that students can and should learn from each other, and must evolve to take on themselves the greatest share of responsibility for their own education;

-Diversity and trans-cultural education: the basic concept in international education is a learning process that places the center of its program the study of the various ways in which human life is expressed;

-Necessity and individual interests: the program focuses on the needs and specificities of each student as an individual. The practical realization of this concept is to change the  Teacher - Tutor to monitor the academic and personal development of each student;

- Participatory decisions: CLlP's management is based on a democratic model of decision making. The CLlP– Oporto International School (Colegio Luso Internacional do Porto) recognizes the fundamental role of parents, teachers and students in the educational process;

- The arts: the arts are essential for a full understanding of our nature as human beings and as members of cultural groups.
So the arts should be taught as independent subjects but an integral part of the study program.

Programs

The CLlP – Oporto International School (Colegio Luso Internacional do Porto)   is organized into two schools:

- The Lower School, which comprises the primary programs (Kindergarten - 3rd) and Intermediate (4th-5th); and

- The Upper School, divided in the programs Junior High (6 th) and Senior High (9th -12th).

In the Lower School students participate in an educational program that includes English, Portuguese, Calligraphy, Mathematics, Science and Technology, History, Geography, Moral Education, Music, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Fine Arts. The French language is introduced in the 4th class.
Priority is given to learn and development of the English language, but the goal is to establish a truly bilingual education from the intermediate classes.

The curriculum of the 6th, 7th and 8th classes is innovative and inter-disciplinary, which was designed to meet the needs of multi-national population of CLlP – Oporto International School (Colegio Luso Internacional do Porto).
 The main aim of the curriculum is to develop the skills acquired in the Lower School and the educational experiences of students so that they can meet the demands of the secondary program.

The Upper School follows the curriculum of the International Certificate of British Secondary education (IGCSE) for 9th and 10th years, complete with language studies, history and Portuguese culture.

tra-Curricular Activities

The entire educational program is based on the student's education as a whole being and although it placed the emphasis in the search for academic excellence, the pursuit of cultural and physical activities are essential to the overall development of the student, it is not neglected.
Thus, the College has organized programs for students who want to participate in extracurricular activities after regular academic schedule - the CLlPclubs -.

The curricula of CLlPclubs engage students in a series of activities that complement and enhance the experiences in class.

These activities are centered on the development of various forms of creativity and the arts, body and movement, communication and expression.

Specifically students participate in exercises organized around various subjects such as music, fine arts, performing arts and sports. The main concern is to offer classes of high quality and attractive activities.

The CLlP clubs function as an autonomous program run by its own coordinator who, in their daily contact with the other teachers, curriculum ensures the connection with others CLlP programs.

Kinder club: For students from 5 to 6 years of age. This club offers activities such as Visual Arts, Creative Writing, Swimming, Tennis, Ballet, Various Games, Music Education, Body and
Motion, Food and Catechesis.

Explorers club: For students from 7 to 10 years old. Activities: Fine art, Body and Movement, Swimming, Tennis, Horse Riding, Obstacle Jump, Karate, Piano, Ballet, Dance, many games, Guitar, Drama, Introduction to Computers, Cooking, Music Education, Study Rooms with support and catechesis.

TEEN club: For pupils aged between 12 and 15 years. Activities:
Ceramics and sculpture, jewelry, decorative arts, weaving, Drama, Rooms study with support, Swimming, Tennis, Horse Riding, Obstacle Heels, Sailing, Windsurfing, Sailing, Jazz Dance, Guitar, Handcraft and Embroidery, Introduction to Computer and Cooking.

The CLlP club: For students from 16 to 18 years. The curriculum of this club is identical to the previous one.


Students can choose to enroll in one or two activities or for the full program. In the first case charged by activity; the second payment is monthly, covering participation in all possible activities.
